The Automotive Diesel Oil (ADO) or petroleum diesel has a very important role to meet the energy demand in transportation, industrial, and power generation sectors in Indonesia, however, the most petroleum diesel is used for the transportation sector. The petroleum diesel demand increases every year, while the petroleum diesel production from Indonesia’s refinery is limited, therefore import of diesel oil is required to meet the domestic demand increase. The diesel oil is a type of fuel in the transportation sector that can not easily be replaced by other types of fuel. Bio-diesel is an energy alternative option to substitute and replace the diesel oil especially in the transportation sector. We are all aware that Indonesia has a big potential to produce CPO as an alternative raw material for producing bio-diesel. The increase of oil price, followed by ADO as an oil refined product, leads a better economy feasibility for utilization of bio-diesel to substitute diesel oil. Social, economic, and technical aspect cost and benefit have to be scrutinized in the utilization of bio-diesel.
